Our Brief Review:
- Level B incrementally builds on the foundational math concepts covered in Level A through repetitive practice across a variety of activities and representations
- The first half of Level B largely reviews the material learned in Level A, providing an opportunity for consolidation and mastery of core concepts
- The second half of Level B introduces new topics like geometry, fractions, money, and time to begin expanding mathematical understanding
- The hands-on activities using manipulatives like an abacus aim to give students a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical principles
- This strong conceptual foundation allows students to pick up related skills like basic multiplication
- Level B introduces unique terminology for different types of mathematical problems, which trains students to recognize and solve problems presented in different formats
- Learning this terminology will prepare students for tackling more complex word problems down the road
- Level B continues RightStart's comprehensive, thorough approach to cementing foundational math skills through incremental practice
- The curriculum's methods and intentional sequencing seem highly effective for systematically building foundational math skills over time
- Completing the full RightStart program should provide an excellent conceptual and practical base for more advanced math learning later on
- We use this program with our own learner and feel it has given a very strong math foundation. We highly recommend it!
