Beyond The Code 1

Short review:

  • Beyond the Code Level 1 is an early reading comprehension workbook that contains 9 short stories totaling around 100 pages

  • The stories are divided into 3 storylines: Zack the Dog, Six Kids Jog, and Help! 911

  • Each 10-page section starts with 4-5 pages of vocabulary, sight words, phonics, rhyming, and basic sentence writing practice

  • This is followed by a short 1-2 page story (around 20 sentences) and comprehension questions

  • Additional activities reinforce concepts and include some drawing/art pages related to the stories

  • The stories are short, humorous and fun for early readers around kindergarten level

  • It provides good practice for sight word recognition, sounding out words, and building reading confidence

  • It is recommended to use it alongside Explode the Code as additional reading comprehension practice

  • It provides good value and many activities to supplement early reading skills

  • The drawings are simple but work for the level and help kids follow along with the stories

  • It can be used as part of a morning basket for review or extra reading practice as needed

  • Meant to be used with Explode the Code 3 or later
