Today we’re reviewing another great preschool/early elementary game, Dinosaur Escape by Peaceable Kingdom! This cooperative game relies on a love of dinosaurs, memory, and some strategic thinking to keep from triggering the volcanic eruption.
🎂 Age 4-6
👨👩👦 2-4 Players
⌛ 15 min
📐 Skills: cooperation, memory, probability, strategic thinking
In Dinosaur Escape, players are working cooperatively to get three dinosaurs safely to Dinosaur Island before the volcano erupts. On each turn players will roll a die. If the volcano is shown they will add the next piece (of 5) to the volcano. After the volcano is complete, players lose the game. If the die shows a number, players will move a dinosaur, and flip over a fern token. If the token is a dinosaur and that dinosaur is currently in the token’s zone on the board, the dinosaur successfully escapes. If it’s not a dinosaur, or the dinosaur shown is not in the right zone, the token is flipped back to the fern side. Players must then remember what’s under each token to help the dinosaurs escape. Token pictures other than the three dinosaurs have no effect other than the t-rex which causes players to move all dinos back to the starting spaces.
This is a terrific preschool/early elementary memory game. As with all Peaceable Kingdom titles, the board and components are high quality and perfect for little hands. Building the volcano is truly the best part. Even after we finish playing our daughter wants to build the volcano. This game might get a bit easy at the higher end of the age range, but can be adapted by adding more items each dino must acquire before getting to leave the island.
Overall our family really enjoys this game and when our children have outgrown it, we’ll give it to another family to have more fun because dinosaurs. Need we say more?
